2015 Club President’s Report

It seems like only last week that we were running around organising the start of the season and here I am writing my report for the Yearbook.

First and always I must thank the great work that the committee of the Willetton Junior Football Club have done this year, from the Registration Day in February to the finals series in September, to keep the Club moving forward. We are all volunteers that give up our time once a month for a meeting and our weekends over winter to make our club the family friendly environment that we have become known for in the District.

My overwhelming thanks must go to the Warner family for their limitless energy and support that they have given both myself and any team or family connected to any of their four boys.  You only have to plant a seed of thought into the mind of Anita and it becomes a living reality.

To our dedicated coaches; week in, week out, from preseason to post season, these are the people that instil the knowledge and love of our great game on your children.  There is no payment as great as seeing a player play their best, knowing that you have helped them to achieve that. I know I speak for all parents who would be lost without the Team Manager and their roster they have orchestrated, not to mention the constant barrage of emails to remind us of where and when we need to be on the weekend.- and don’t forget the oranges! to these ladies and gentle men  say thanks.

This year I am making special mention of Rashel Blazevich and all her efforts in putting this fantastic publication together for us to enjoy.  This is a little booklet we can all look back on in the years to come and laugh, enjoy and take pride in.  Just remember you may be looking at the future of the AFL in the pages to follow.

I started the season with a meeting with all the coaches and managers and told the story of catching up with our previous President, Mick McGinty.  Mick had his son play at Willetton from Auskick to 17’s and had been involved as either coach or on the committee, up until 2010.  He told me how much he missed all the friends that he had made over those years, once Luke had finished his time here.  He implored me to tell all our current and future families to enjoy our time with our special place in the community and hold strong to those bonds and friendships that you make.  We may all move in different circles, our children go to different schools and we work in different industries, but we all come together on a weekend to share in our little slice of the Willetton community and the game we love – Australian Rules Football.

As the 2015 season is winding up, I am already looking forward to the 2016 season ad all that it promises.  So my final words to you all for the season- enjoy your summer, always keep a football nearby and see you all in 2016.
