A combined Willetton-Rostrata team won the Premiership in the Under 14’s

The WJFC Committee seriously considers a merger with Rostrata JFC and a number of meetings are held by each Club and it’s members.  Negotiations continue throughout the year and a stalemate over a number of issues occured and WJFC decide to continue in its own right.

 

AFL Rookie Draft

Pick #33 Aaron Sandilands to Fremantle Football Club. Originally from Mount Barker before moving to WJFC, Sandilands played 271 games and kicked 98 goals for Fremantle. He won the Fremantle Fairest and Best Doig Medal in 2009 and 2015. Sandilands was an outstanding ruckman and was recognised by being selected to the All Australian team in 2008, 09, 10 and 2014. In 2010 he received 20 votes in the Brownlow Medal count and 82 votes throughout his career. Sandilands also won the Ross Glendinning Medal in 2009 and 2010 in the Western Derbies and the ABC broadcasters Geoff Christian Medal in 2009. Sandilands holds the record for most hitouts  with 8,502 to his name and is a Fremantle FC Life Member. Sandilands also played 22 games for East Fremantle FC, 14 of them in 2002 and he kicked 9 gaols for the Sharks.

Brett Peake is recruited to East Fremantle FC  league squad in 2003 and plays 20 games, kicking 10 goals.  He is picked up by Fremantle FC in the November 2003 AFL draft as pick number #43 and also under the father-son rule as his father Brian Peake played with East Fremantle, Geelong and Perth. He played a further 16 games with East Freo in 2004 before breaking into the Fremantle team in 2005.  Peake player 75 games with the Dockers and kicked 42 goals. At the end of the 2009 season he requested a trade and was picked up by St Kilda FC.  He played 43 games from 2010-2012 and kicked a further 20 goals before returning to East Fremantle FC. While at East Fremantle FC he played in the 2016 WA State team who defeated Tasmania at Bassendean oval by 134 points. Peake kicked 7 goals on that day. In total Brett Peake played 118 AFL games, kicking 62 goals, played in 2 losing premiership sides and played 123 WAFL games, kicking 55 goals. He earned 39 Sandover Medal votes over his WAFL career, the highest being 2005- 7 votes, 2014 -10 votes and 2016- 10 votes.

Ryan Henley is recruited to East Fremantle and plays 8 games for the Sharks.

Andrew Green is recruited to East Fremantle and plays from 2003-2005 amassing 35 games and kicking 11 goals. He then moves to Peel Thunder from 2006-2008 and plays a further 43 games kicking 11 goals.
